Can i use a blonde toner shampoo on my hair if it is dark brown?

i recently dyed my hair dark brown but i dont like how dark it is, and i dont want to dye it again because i dont want to damage my hair any more. can i use a blonde toner shampoo to make it go lighter or will nothing happen? if that doesnt work please tell me some things that work at making your hair lighter, help would be appreciated! thanks heaps xx
