Can you rent a car and travel to a different location?

If I rented a car from (say Atl Jackson Hartsfield airport) to another location to drop it off rather than flying (say John F Kennedy Airport) in a day, would that be ridiculously expensive? It says that a car rental is $55, plus gas, but is there any other hidden fee I should be aware of?
