In the tv miniseries 'The Kennedys'...?

why do they show the family calling JFK "Jack" when they are at their home but on tv, press conferences and the inauguration he is referred to as John. I am very confused! Any one know? When I looked it up online the description refers to him as John as well and Jack as one of his brothers. I am watching now, though and they keep calling him Jack.
