Is it possible to re-dye a garment?

I dyed a 100% cotton skirt pink, but I used too little dye for the quantity of fabric, and now it's a pastel shade which I don't like at all. If I bought more of the same colour (or red), and dyed the fabric again, would it hold the new colour?
